Ultrashort-baseline Persistent Scatterer Radar Interferometry for Subsidence Detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents an improved approach of multi-temporal interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) for detecting land subsidence phenomena by using time series of high resolution SAR images. Our algorithm extends the capability of the temporarily coherent point (TCP) InSAR technique proposed previously to detect subsidence even in the case of a small number of SAR images available for a study area. The approach proposed in this paper is implemented by using the interferograms with ultrashort spatial baselines (USB) through several procedures, including selection of USB interferometric pairs, TCP identification, TCP networking and modeling, as well as TCP solution. As the topographic effects are negligible in the USB interferograms, an external digital elevation model is no longer necessary for differential processing, thus simplifying both TCP modeling and parameter estimating. The algorithm has been tested with the high resolution TerraSAR-X (TSX) images acquired over Tianjin (China), and validated by using the ground-based leveling measurements. The testing results indicate that the density and coverage extent of TCPs can be increased dramatically, and the quality of subsidence measurements derived by the USB-based TCPInSAR can be raised.

Abstract The population growth, the development of cities, industry, agriculture, and improper use of resources especially non-renewable resources have led human beings to face the danger of running out of resources. In some cases, in addition to the above, irreversible environmental and geological hazards have occurred due to the overdrawn of resources. Over extraction of groundwater resourc...

Continued excessive extraction of groundwater may lead to significant land subsidence, which causes economic loss. The aim of this research is to investigate ground subsidence in several Australian capital cities using the Persistent Scatterer Interferometry approach. Such studies may help improve our understanding of the deformation of terrain and built structures, and evaluate the effectivene...
متن کاملMonitoring subsidence rates along road network by persistent scatterer SAR interferometry with high-resolution TerraSAR-X imagery
Ground subsidence is one of the key factors damaging transportation facilities, e.g., road networks consisting of highways and railways. In this paper, we propose to apply the persistent scatterer synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PS-InSAR) approach that uses highresolution TerraSAR-X (TSX) imagery to extract the regional scale subsidence rates (i.e., average annual subsidence in mm/year...

Since the Persistent Scatterer Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Interferometry (PSI) technology allows the detection of ground subsidence with millimeter accuracy, it is becoming one of the most powerful and economical means for health diagnosis of major transportation infrastructures. However, structures of different types may suffer from various levels of localized subsidence due to the differe...

Based on the correlation diagram between the master and slave images (Fig. 5), the pair of appropriate images in terms of the shortest spatial and temporal lines is identified to produce the interferogram. As shown in Fig. 5, the maximum vertical baseline is obtained between -400 and -400. The obtained interferograms indicate the cumulative phase of the study area, which fluctuates between zero...
